Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

As of this time (9:30 AM on March 1st), Mt. Ashland has received over 70 inches of snow in the past 10 days. In case you're kind of mathematically challenged like myself, I busted out a calculator and did the tough equation: 70 inches is 5'10" of snow. What is more amazing is the amount of snow in the actual town. Folks who have been here for years have said that this is the most non-stop snow action they've seen in town... EVER.

Words of wisdom: Take advantage of it. You ain't going to have a storm like this next year, the year after, or the year after that. So, go outside, dance in the snow, make snow angels, and for heaven's sake go skiing or boarding!

If you are going back country, be safe and cautious. Stop by the Outdoor Program's office to get the information you need, equipment, or just a hug. It's snowing, baby, and we are loving it.

Snow Far, Snow Good!

As of today, January 24, the snow pack for the Rogue River drainage is looking to be around 85% of normal, which is pretty good considering that we haven’t had any BIG storms roll through recently.

The Rogue River is one of the crowned-jewels in the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System. The Rogue is thought by many as being the premier wilderness run in Oregon and is one of the most sought-after permits in the country. Upstream of the wilderness run and near Gold Hill, the Rogue offers paddlers the excitement of fun class III drops and a half-day of paddling.

Southern Oregon University’s Outdoor Program will be offering trips on the Upper Rogue (also known as the “Nugget” stretch) to students, faculty, and staff of the University. It is a spectacular section of river that is well suited for beginners through advanced paddlers because of its diverse features. Please join the Outdoor Program this coming spring on the Upper Rogue. You will have a blast, get a great work out, and meet some fun and active folks. In the meantime, think “snow.”
